The L8S aquacel contains silver chloride and magnesium plates, connected to two contact pins protruding from its top. The unit is sealed against ingress of moisture or spray by insertion of two plugs into activation holes, located on opposite sides of the battery. To activate the two sealing plugs must be removed by pulling the operating tag.
The L8S is automatically activated on immersion in water. Once unsealed and immersed in water the L8S must be considered as expended.
